Baptism

The Christian life is marked by a variety of passages, however, the primary passage is made in the waters of baptism.

Here is the beginning of the passage into life with God in Christ Jesus. Here is the sacrament of our identity as children of God. Although the baptismal bath is a once-in-a-lifetime passage, the sacrament of baptism gives shape to each day of the Christian’s life.

Baptism is considered a rite of initation into the Christian family.  In baptism, a person is washed clean in water and then sealed with oil as a symbol of Christ's claim on us.

If you wish to be baptized or have your child baptized, please contact the church office and speak to one of the pastors.

Funerals

At the time of death, the Christian community comes together to give thanks to God for the life of the deceased and to celebrate the promise of resurrection to life eternal.  We gather around Word and Sacrament in this time to hear the words of comfort that God has for us in an interweaving of God's story with our story.

Funerals are among the times that we as Christians do the task of the Church the best. We comfort one another in our grief, we gather in community, and we proclaim Christ crucified and risen. A Christian funeral is not a tribute to how wonderful you were, but instead it publicly affirms the saving power of God, as demonstrated in your life. We tell how God’s story interacts with your story. Baptismal imagery is important because it reminds us of God’s saving deeds. As Paul writes in Romans 6:5, “For if we have been united with him in a death like his, we shall certainly be united with him in a resurrection like his.”

In the days following a death, it can often be overwhelming for family members to put the details of a funeral together. Whether it is following a long illness or a surprising accident, your loved ones may wonder what your wishes really were. This worksheet is an opportunity for you to think about these things now, discussing them with your family, friends, and pastor.  You can click here to access this document.

The pastors are always happy to speak with you about any questions or concerns that you may have in regards to this matter.

Weddings

Marriage is a gift of God and it is intended for the mutual joy and enrichment of those who enter into this covenant.  In Genesis 2, we hear God say that it is not good for humans to be alone, so God made us to be in relationship with one another.  Jesus affirmed the covenant of marriage in the Gospels and gave himself as an example of perfect love.  As two people come together to join themselves to each other, the vows that they make are made publically so that their covenant with one another becomes publically accountable and can be protected and sustained by the community.

As a part of preparation for marriage, a series of pre-marital counseling sessions with one of the Pastors is required for the enrichment of the relationship of those wishing to be married.
