Global & Social Concerns |
Serving the outside community.
Global Concerns helps the congregation to be aware of Christian issues outside of our community and provides opportunities to express our faith on behalf of those who suffer from hunger, poverty and injustice. We encourage participation in ELCA World Hunger Appeal, Lutheran World Relief and Bread for the World.
Ministry Contact: Janice Conrad Trinity Social Concerns supports many other non-profits and outreach projects in the Lawrence community. We are a covenant congregation for Habitat for Humanity, participating in its Building on Faith projects; a host congregation for Family Promise, and a partner in the Trinity Interfaith Food Pantry by collecting non-perishables. We provide and serve lunch at the Lawrence Interfaith Nutritional Kitchen on the second Tuesday every other month (January, March, May, July, September, November). We support a school supply drive each summer to benefit our neighborhood school, New York Elementary, and provide scarves, hats and gloves to students in need through the district in winter.
A Thanksgiving tradition has been to deliver all of the supplies for a Thanksgiving meal for those families in need referred to us through a school social worker. We also administer funds for the Turn It On! program which, in conjunction with area social service agencies, helps reconnect utilities for those in need.
The group generally meets the first Tuesday of each month at 5:30 p.m.
